Welcoming 47 new student journalists, including the first official member of the Illustration Animation section, The Industrialist, the official student publication of Pampanga State University, conducted its general orientation for new members at the Old College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) building on October 5.
Associate Editor Ara Jesusa Costamero opened the orientation with welcome remarks, and Editor-in-Chief Ma. Clarisse Digol delivered an inspirational message, followed by the introduction of the publication’s new staff, who also showcased their unique talents, and the presentation of the editorial board.
In her speech, Digol emphasized the struggles of joining the publication and urged student journalists to fulfill their role.
“Our role as student journalists is not meant to make us comfortable. It should spark meaningful dialogues; it is meant to criticize, to challenge, and above all, it is not meant to serve you, but to serve the people. So more than the self-serving reasons why we joined the publication, I hope that from this day onwards, we go beyond our comfort, our personal goals, and our own wants,” she said.
Meanwhile, to formally affirm their commitment, Managing Editor for Administration Elisha Mae Laquindanum led the induction through the oath-taking of the Young Journalists Association of Region III Creed.
Moreover, the orientation also awarded applicants who demonstrated outstanding performances in their respective sections throughout the screening process.
In his closing remarks, Managing Editor for Finance John Jerome Santos congratulated the new staff and reaffirmed the publication’s guiding principles.
With 156 aspiring student journalists, this year’s Pamananam 2025 set a new milestone for the publication as the largest applicant turnout to date.
