“Makibaka kayo at makialam.”
This was the message delivered by Rev. Fr. Jose Antonio Paras to Honorians during Pampanga State University’s (PampangaStateU) 164th founding anniversary celebration on November 4, where he called on the academic community to take a stand against corruption and uphold integrity.
Formerly Don Honorio Ventura State University, PampangaStateU commenced its founding anniversary festivities with a Eucharistic Thanksgiving Mass officiated by Fr. Paras at the Academic Building II lobby, attended by university officials, faculty members, students, and staff who gathered to express gratitude and unity for the institution’s continuing legacy.
In his homily, Fr. Paras emphasized the responsibility of the youth in confronting corruption, which he described as a persistent force that robs many Filipinos, especially students, of their future and opportunities.
“Lahat tayo ay nanakawan na, lalo na kayong mga kabataan; ninanakawan kayo—ninanakawan kayo ng inyong kinabukasan, kaya makibaka kayo at makialam,” he said.
Following the Mass, the university grounds came alive with the “Parade of Legacy,” featuring colleges marching in their designated colors and culminating in a booth fair at the L. Pavilion organized by various student organizations.
Adding to the celebration, an art exhibit and photobooth were set up at the College of Education (COE) Building extension lot, while a financial literacy seminar was simultaneously conducted at the IPE covered court to promote practical knowledge among students.
In an interview with The Industrialist, College of Education Student Council (COESC) Governor Jose Andrei L. Lobo shared that the booths not only showcased students’ creativity and skills but also served as an avenue to foster camaraderie and purpose through fundraising efforts.
“We still had fun and enjoyed it; most importantly, we achieved our main objective—to successfully conduct a fundraising activity,” he shared.
Meanwhile, a simultaneous job fair spearheaded by the Office of Career Services (OCS) took place at the Ernesto T. Nicdao Sports Center, providing graduating students and alumni with opportunities to connect with potential employers.
