The Indus —

Privacy policy

What we collect when you read or subscribe to The Indus, why, and how to have it removed.

Who we are

The Indus (theindus.org) is an online publication of reported, illustrated stories from the Indus basin. For anything in this policy, write to [email protected].

What we collect

Newsletter sign-ups. When you subscribe we store your email address, the date, and which form you used. We do not ask for your name or anything else.

Reading statistics. We count simple events, such as a story being opened, against the page address. These records contain no name, email address or IP address.

Server logs. Like every website, our web server records technical request data (IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time) to keep the site secure and working. Logs are kept for a limited period and then deleted.

Emails you send us. If you write to us, we keep the correspondence so we can reply.

Cookies

We set one cookie, a session cookie that protects our forms against misuse. It contains no personal information and expires when you close your browser. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

How we use your information

We use your email address only to send what you asked for: the weekly newsletter, and service emails such as subscription confirmations. We never sell, rent or share our mailing list, and we never add people to it without their consent.

Services we use

The site is hosted on Amazon Web Services, and our emails are delivered by Amazon Simple Email Service. Cloudflare provides our domain name and network security. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads. Each of these providers processes data on our behalf under its own privacy terms.

Unsubscribing and deletion

Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link, and you can also email [email protected] to be removed. Addresses that unsubscribe, bounce or report our email as spam are never emailed again. You can ask us at any time for a copy of the data we hold about you, or for it to be corrected or deleted, and we will respond within 30 days.

Children

The Indus is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy we will update the date below and, for significant changes, tell subscribers by email.
